Or
Shalom’s Biblical Garden
Or
Shalom has a biblical garden, or gan
in Hebrew, at our home on 10th and Fraser. The Garden is inspired by
the plants and flora mentioned in the Torah and native to the Land of Israel,
including wheat, barley, figs and grapes. It also features flowers, bushes and
trees native to the Pacific Northwest, and lavender for samim during Havdallah and horseradish for maror at Passover. The wheat is being grown with the
support of the Environmental Youth
Alliance and their Lawns
to Loaves Project, in particular. For more information about the
history and botany of our gan, please
read the article about it that was recently published in the Jewish
Independent.
Here
are pictures from our most recent Garden Work Party. We always encourage new
people, with green thumbs or without, to come help our garden. Please contact Ben Harris to get involved.
