High Holydays

Click for full 2018 High Holidays schedule.

For 40 years, Or Shalom has held Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services, celebrated with our traditions of participation and openness. Over the 10 days of Yamim Noraim, services are led by Or Shalomniks from all walks of life, contributing to the rich tapestry that is an Or Shalom service.

Or Shalom opens its doors to everyone looking to join with a community to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with us. To continue this mitzvah, we rely on our High Holyday members’ generosity. You can become a High Holyday member of Or Shalom online. Or Shalom welcomes everyone to participate in our High Holydays services regardless of ability to pay. If your financial situation prevents you from purchasing a membership, you may wish to make a high holidays donation.

Please note this year that Erev Rosh Hashanah we will be holding an event at Or Shalom rather than a service at the JCC. Tashlich will be held at 4 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Queen Elizabeth Park at the waterfall in the Quarry Garden, which is to the west of Bloedel Conservatory.

Or Shalom’s Rosh Hashanah edition of Keren Or, our community newsletter, is online here.

My sister is participating in her first Yom Kippur in Vancouver and we were wondering if there is a break-fast after the Yom Kippur services at the JCC. Also, I would like to make a High Holiday donation but is it necessary to get a full High Holiday membership to ensure a seat?
    Thank you

Or Shalom opens its doors to all who wish to celebrate the High Holydays with us, and relies on the generosity of donors to ensure we can continue this open practice. We try to put out enough seats for everyone, especially on Erev Yom Kippur. The high holiday membership is available for those who can support Or Shalom to that extent, and membership provides early seating but then the doors are open to all who wish to start Yom Kippur with our community.

Donations can also be made through our web site to orshalom.ca/donate

There is no break-fast scheduled at the JCC this year I am afraid.
