I've had some interest in a class for leyning, i.e. chanting from the torah. In reality, this type of learning is best done with a tutor or in Havruta, a traditional study method with a partner.

Nonetheless, I would like have a meeting, give people supplies (a tape and a sheet with the names and symbols for the "trop" or "ta'a'meem", a.k.a. music for reading torah), encourage people to choose a buddy, and give people as much support as they need in this process.

Prerequisites: You must be able to read a passage from the torah with vowels. If you can't do this now, learn how to do this or practice until you can do so comfortably. This is an ongoing project and you can contact me anytime you would like to start.

Musically speaking, I would encourage anyone to do this. It is not difficult and does not require knowledge of note reading.

Please email me at dbfenson@hotmail.com if you are interested. Presumably, we will meet after shul one Shabbat in July.  I hope to hear from many of you.
