Registration is Open for Retreat 2016

Registration is now open for the 2016 Mother’s Day renewed Or Shalom Retreat. To be held again at beautiful camp hope, this year’s shortened retreat is being held on Mother’s Day weekend (May 6,7,8) and will be a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with nature, spirit and each other. Or Shalom is particularly excited to welcome our bnei mitzvah families and special guest rabbinic student Irwin Keller. Irwin is well-known for his energetic ability to connect with children, teens, and adults with story and music.

Rabbi Hannah personally knows Irwin and describes him as “a beloved leader in Northern California, where I lived before moving to Vancouver. He is a highly educated man whose intellect is at the service of expressions from the heart. Irwin will bring us dramatic interaction in the Torah service, sensitive reading of Yiddish poetry, original stories and music, and a way with our young ones. He’s poignant, funny and deep.”

Rabbi Laura is one of Irwin’s teachers in her ALEPH class, she describes him as “knowledgeable, articulate, funny, spiritual, and appreciative of others. It is always a delight to learn with him!”

We sincerely hope you can join us for this amazing and unique weekend!

Aleph Listening Tour comes to Vancouver March 25-27.

The Aleph co-chairs are visiting several of the Jewish Renewal communities in North America, and they’ve added a Vancouver leg to hear from Or Shalom, Canada’s oldest Jewish Renewal community. Having the Aleph co-chairs visit our community is an opportunity for you/us/Or Shalom to shape and ground the future of Aleph, Jewish Renewal and Judaism.

Co-chairs Rabbi Rachel Barenblat and Rabbi David Evan Markus, want to hear the ideas, opinions, and values they should be considering, mulling over, and representing in discussions during their tenure as Aleph co-chairs. Some of the questions they’ve posed are: When thinking about Jewish Renewal, what would you jettison or change?  What focus might you recommend for Jewish Renewal in coming years? How can we cultivate spiritual and organizational innovation? Please come to the above event to share your perspective on behalf of Or Shalom.
