Sefirat Ha'Omer-Counting the Omer
Week Three - Tiferet-Balance
Adapted from Rabbi Min Kantrowitz
The third week of counting the Omer
focuses on Tiferet, the sefirah (Divine attribute) of harmony and balance.
Following Chesed (boundless love) and Gevurah (restraint), Tiferet stands for
centered balance and integration. The week of Tiferet reminds us to walk a
balanced path. We know from experience that the physical practice of balance is
active work, as we may remember learning to ride a bicycle, practice yoga, or
steer a skateboard. Tiferet reminds us that we can develop the same skills in
the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual realms.
What are we invited to work on
during this week of Tiferet?
In the world of assiyah (action), tzedakah: when we give tzedakah, we help to reinstate balance through a
more equitable distribution of the world's bounty.
In the world of yetzirah (feeling), healing: Tiferet manifests as we loosen the hold that painful
memories have over us. We recognize loss, and yet are able to relate to the
past in a more loving way.
In the world of beriyah (intellect),
teaching and learning: Tiferet is at play as we
recognize the exchange of wisdom. Each of us has something to learn, and each
of us has something to teach.
In the world of atzilut (spirit), awe:
Tiferet enables us to recognize that the balance of all creation
is a constantly changing web, infused with Divine energy.
May the sefirah of Tiferet guide us
this week in finding balance where it is needed.
