Or Shalom Religious School is proud to offer a high quality programme
of Jewish learning and living to the children of members and non-members alike.
We are dedicated to providing a joyful, spiritual and safe learning environment.
We aim to imbue our students with a vibrant Jewish identity, a strong sense of
their heritage, a love of learning, and empathy for others. Our goal is for our
students to carry the lessons of caring and awareness into their daily lives,
and grow into enthusiastic participants in the life of the congregation and
community.
Our curriculum promotes Jewish cultural, religious and linguistic
literacy through the study of Torah, avodah (prayer and ritual), gemilut chasadim (acts of kindness), and Hebrew.
We place emphasis on tikkun olam
(repairing the world) through class tzedakah projects. We encourage familiarity with the
synagogue space and rituals, experiencing the Jewish holidays, and a love of
Israel. Our teachers are knowledgeable, creative, and enthusiastic role models.
We are currently
offering three classes:
Our K-2 class meets Sunday mornings from
10:00am–noon.
Our 3-5 class on Tuesday afternoon from
4:00-6:00pm.
In our B'Yachad class bar
and bat mitzvah students and their parents study with Rabbi Laura Duhan Kaplan on selected Sunday mornings. This class aims
to create a warm cohort in which to engage in active
learning experiences, explore deeper meanings of key ideas, to participate in a
significant mitzvah project, and to
welcome Jewish youth into adulthood in a joyous synagogue ceremony.

As we
believe that no Jewish child should be denied an education, a number of
scholarships are available.
