Jewish Educator – Shabbat Sheli
Shabbat Sheli is Or Shalom Synagogue’s monthly Shabbat morning programming for children ages 3-6 that explores Jewish creativity, practice, celebration, and meaning-making through Jewish story, melody, and ritual with a cohort of young Or Shalom families. Interactive, fun, and age-appropriate, our program is based on Jewish spiritual themes and values drawn from the weekly parasha and from holidays as well as through Mitzvah-centred curriculum that brings dynamic spiritual content to children through an innovative whole-child approach that includes parent participation. Moving into its third year, this program has proven to be highly popular among synagogue members as well as unaffiliated families.
Or Shalom is hiring a Jewish Educator to collaborate on running our monthly Shabbat Sheli program. The ideal candidate has experience working with young children, an understanding of Jewish rituals, and the capacity and desire for creative expression of these rituals.
We are seeking a friendly and mature person who can work independently as well as in conjunction with our Rabbi and Program Coordinator. Duties include preparing class materials, some curricula design, and program implementation of the Shabbat Sheli gathering one Saturday morning a month with support from two aids under the Educator’s supervision. The Educator must have strong communication skills and a desire to help foster meaningful connections among parents and children, and embrace creating a vibrant communal exploratory learning environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and engaging. Some knowledge of Hebrew considered an asset.
This part-time position offers a competitive hourly rate and the opportunity to work on innovative programming for young Jewish families. If you are enthusiastic about creative Jewish education and have relevant experience, we would like to hear from you! Please send a resume and cover letter addressed to Rabbi Hannah Dresner to email@example.com. This position will begin in September 2018.
