At our Shabbat Sheli and Little Lights Parent Meeting this spring we had a fruitful conversation about what is working well, what could be better, and what could be added to Or Shalom’s young family programming. Click on the image of the mind map below to see the results. If you weren’t able to attend the meeting and want to share your thoughts, please fill out our questionnaire.
One of the major takeaways was the desire to build a chavurah, a fellowship of families who will learn and grow together and build a close-knit community within the folds of the greater Or Shalom community. We want to nurture this and are here to help young families connect to resources that can assist them in hosting Shabbat dinners in their homes, coordinating childminding so they can attend adult programs at Or Shalom, connect to elders in the community, and more.
Connect and Grow
Based on feedback from the meeting, parents wanted ways to communicate regularly and get to know one another as well as a way to schedule regular gatherings outside of Shabbat Sheli and Little Lights, including in homes, and in outdoor spaces in Metro Vancouver.
- We’ve set up an easy-to-use listserv via Yahoo Groups that will facilitate this parent-led connection. Click here to subscribe to the group or send an email to orshalomyoungfamilies-subscrib

- We’ve also created a Google calendar called Or Shalom Young Families. Want a way to coordinate hosting events, say every third week of the month? You can use this calendar to schedule events amongst yourselves as far in advance as you like. Please email Shelley if you’d like to be given permission to add events to the calendar.
