Tisha B’Av: Presenting Or Shalom’s Shoah scroll

Last year, woven between words from the Book of Lamentations, we recited the names of Or Shalom family lost to the Shoah and other genocides. Reciting those names, and hearing a few of their stories, brought us some measure of healing.

Now, we will unveil the Shoah Scroll our volunteers have worked to create over the course of the year, and which will find a place of kavod – honor in our Or Shalom Bayit, upon our return. The Or Shalom Shoah Scroll contains names and photographs of loved ones lost to brutality, all of which we will have an opportunity to see, electronically.

As we remember our ancestors, ancient and modern, may we increase our empathy with the pain and horrors perpetrated against our Indigenous Peoples, racialized minorities and peoples of colour, and our sensitivity to all marginalized people.

The Or Shalom Shoah Scroll was lovingly prepared by Mary Adlersberg, Marianne Rev, Deborah Ross-Grayman and Henry Ross-Grayman, in consultation with Rabbi Hannah.

Our Aicha readers will be: Rabbi Laura Duhan-Kaplan, Casey Collins, Rabbi Hannah, Val Dolgin, and Lilach Somberg.
